    Elected Official of the Year

    On October 7, 2016, Commissioner Brooks was honored as Elected Official of the year by Cenikor at the Join The Voices For Recovery luncheon. The Cenikor Foundation provides quality substance abuse and behavioral health services in the community through a continuum care for adults and adolescents.

    Commissioner Brooks’ has worked diligently to collaborate efforts with committed community partners to effect change. He continues to advocate and champion for opportunities for those who have stumbled along the way.

    Inaugural HLM Alzheimer's Education Series Event

    On August 20, 2016, Commissioner Brooks introduced the Inaugural Health Lives Matter Alzheimer's Education Series Event. This new education series provided participants with educational sessions, health services and resources which will increase awareness and become a trailblazer to new and improved service outlets. Over 200 participants were in attendance at the Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus in Downtown Fort Worth. Partners included prominent organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association, United Way Area Agency of Tarrant County and the UNT Health Science Center.

    2016 Precinct One United Way Pancake Breakfast

    The Precinct One United Way Pancake Breakfast benefiting the United Way of Tarrant County took place this year on Friday, November 4. Due to Early Voting at the Southwest Subcourthouse, the event was moved downtown to the Tarrant County Administration Building, where there was a strong turnout. We could not have done it without the attendees, sponsors and volunteers who made our event a success again this year. THANK YOU!

    Commissioner Brooks Elected First Vice President of the National Association of Counties

    Commissioner Brooks was elected NACo First Vice President on July 24, 2016. He has been an active NACo member since 1991, where he has served in various leadership roles.

    Healthy Lives Matter: Prostate Cancer Awareness Event

    Our second annual Healthy Lives Matter: Precinct One Prostate Cancer Screening event was held Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Moncrief Cancer Institute. The purpose of the event is to provide men FREE prostate cancer screenings, as well as provide men -- and their families -- educational support through increased awareness. Through the help and support of our partners and sponsors, this event surpassed all expectations with a turnout of over 120 attendees and 106 participants tested. Thank you to the attendees, volunteers, sponsors and partners who made it all possible.

    Commissioner Roy Charles Brooks, elected 2nd Vice President of the National Association of Counties

     

    On Monday, July 13, 2015, Commissioner Brooks was elected as 2nd Vice President of the National Association of Counties (NACo) during the NACo Annual Conference in Charlotte, NC. Active in NACo since 1991, Commissioner Brooks has spent ten years on the Board of Directors having been appointed by eight NACo presidents. He has served as chair of the Large Urban Caucus, chair of the Healthy Counties Initiative, chair of the Health Reform Subcommittee, president of the National Association of Black County Officials and current chair of the National Organization of Black County Officials.

    Prostate Cancer Awareness Event

    For 2015, I am pleased to announce and launch my new initiative, “Healthy Lives Matter.” As part of the first “Healthy Lives Matter” series, I hosted the inaugural Tarrant County – Precinct One Prostate Cancer Screening event. The event was held Saturday, February 14, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tarrant County Public Health. The purpose of the event is to provide men FREE prostate cancer screenings, as well as provide men -- and their families -- educational support through increased awareness. Through the help and support of our partners and sponsors, this event was a great success.

    International Walk to School Day at C.C. Moss Elementary School

    On Wednesday, October 8, the office celebrated and participated in INTERNATIONAL WALK TO SCHOOL DAY. Commissioner Brooks had the opportunity to walk to school with the children of C.C. Moss Elementary School. What an amazing turnout there was on this beautiful morning where over 400 students participated in this walk. Through the collaboration of the Fort Worth ISD, Tarrant County Public Health and the Blue Zones Project this was a successful and memorable event. Let us work hard to continue to promote a healthy fit lifestyle for ourselves and most importantly our future generations.

    Large Urban County Caucus

    As the Chair of NACo's Large Urban County Caucus, LUCC, Commissioner Roy Charles Brooks works closely with other elected officials across the nation and whose goals are to provide useful information to its members as they search for pragmatic solutions to the challenges facing the nation’s largest urban counties.
