August 12, 2020 Update:
On August 6, 2020, the Texas Supreme Court issued its Twenty-Second (22nd) Emergency Order Regarding the CoVid-19 State of Disaster. This Order extends the ban on this Court's ability to conduct a jury trial until October 1, 2020. Additionally, this August 6th Order reaffirms the Supreme Court's previous Emergency Orders limiting this Court's ability to conduct any "live/in-person" hearings without prior approval from the Office of Court Administration, located in Austin. This OCA approval will only be granted after receipt of written approval from both the Regional Presiding Judge of the 8th Administrative Region (Judge David L. Evans) and the Local Administrative Judge (Judge Jerome Hennigan) after approval from other county agencies.
For the present time, the 67th District Court continues to conduct its hearings by Zoom or telephone conferencing. Additionally, the Court is reviewing and ruling on motions presented to it by submission only.
This Court has remained open throughout all of the pandemic and will remain open. All court personnel (judge, coordinator and reporter) have chosen to work daily at the courthouse. However, with the recent increase in virus case numbers, the judge has asked its staff to work now full time from home. Please be advised that this Court’s ability to answer telephone calls promptly is limited and your call will roll over to voicemail which will be regularly checked. Elaine Langford, the Court’s Coordinator, does prefer email communication instead of phone. Live hearings will be limited. In summary, this Court’s successful efforts in promptly and efficiently handling matters for attorneys and litigants will now be a little less prompt. Be patient, please.
The Court appreciates your consideration and patience. Please contact this Court, email (EMLangford@tarrantcounty.com) or telephone (817.884.1452) with any questions or concerns. We are all in this together. Stay Healthy!
