Can I register a vehicle that is not titled in my name?
You may only register a vehicle on behalf of the titled owner with a Permission Letter and acceptable form(s) of ID for you and the owner. You are not eligible to register online on behalf of the titled owner.
If you are not the titled owner but you have purchased the vehicle, were awarded the vehicle in a divorce decree, or the owner is deceased, you must transfer the title to the vehicle before purchasing registration.
Renewal paperwork including the renewal notice, supporting documentation and fees can be mailed or placed in the secure drop box located at the northwest corner of the Tarrant County Administration Building in downtown Fort Worth. We accept checks/money orders/cashier’s checks made payable to Wendy Burgess, Tax Assessor-Collector, through the mail and in the drop box. No cash or credit card information please. The sticker and plates are mailed to you. Please allow at least 3 weeks for processing and mail time.
