More Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile Virus

Ground spraying scheduled Friday night in two separate parts of the county

October 16, 2014 (Tarrant County, TX) – Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) has confirmed two more West Nile virus (WNV) positive mosquito samples. The samples came from two separate areas in unincorporated Tarrant County.

The first sample was collected in Southeast Tarrant County – in the area of Wilson Road. The second sample was collected in Southeast Tarrant County – in the area around Kennedale New Hope Road.

Weather permitting; TCPH will begin ground spraying efforts Friday, October 17, 2014. Ground spraying will start at 9 p.m. and conclude by 5 a.m. the following morning.

In an effort to inform the public, TCPH has issued a notification to neighbors in the area and will continue notifications through Friday.

TCPH has also updated the WNV Interactive Map on the department’s Stop West Nile Virus webpage.

To date, 4,099 mosquito samples have been tested at TCPH’s North Texas Regional Laboratory since seasonal surveillance began on April 1. Tarrant County wide, 306 mosquito samples have tested positive for the virus.

TCPH would like to remind residents of the importance of taking personal protective measures to safeguard against West Nile Virus. Residents should routinely dump standing water on their property, use repellent, and dress for dusk to dawn.

TCPH has compiled a list of ways You Can Protect Yourself.
