Tarrant County Renters Can Still Get Assistance

Nov. 9, 2021 - (Tarrant County) – As of Friday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m., the Texas Rent Relief Program (TRR), the State of Texas’ rental assistance program, stopped accepting applications.

However, Tarrant County’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP), along with programs administered by the cities of Arlington and Fort Worth, will continue to accept applications for assistance and sufficient funding is available to those who qualify.

Renters in Tarrant County who are having difficulty paying for their rent and/or utilities are encouraged to visit Get Rent Help to find the correct application based on their address. Landlords may begin the application process on behalf of their renters.

Tarrant County Residents and Landlords outside Arlington and Fort Worth:

To accelerate assistance, the Tarrant County Commissioners Court approved an updated policy to facilitate a streamlined application with fewer documentation requirements. The application is available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. Should renters or landlords need assistance completing the application, help is available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese by calling 817-850-7940 daily from 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Funds may be provided for unpaid, overdue rent and utilities from April 1, 2020, and for future rent, with up to 18 months of rental and utility assistance provided per household. Residents may be eligible to receive funds regardless of their immigration status. Financial assistance provided through the program will not be considered income.

Through ERAP, the county has provided just over $6 million in assistance to renters and landlords outside of Fort Worth and Arlington, and to utility companies. Assistance provided through the program is a grant and will not need to be repaid.

Fort Worth and Arlington Residents and Landlords:

Rental and utility assistance is also available for renters and landlords living in the cities of Fort Worth and Arlington; visit Get Rent Help (outdated link) to be routed to the appropriate application. More information on the program policies and application requirements for these programs may be found at Emergency Rental Assistance and Housing Authority, respectively.
