Texas Supreme Court Extends and Modifies Covid Emergency Orders
The Texas Supreme Court has issued its 54th and 55th Emergency Orders. The main takeaways are that evictions are only abated if a landlord has an application pending for rental assistance for the tenant and premises in the case. Secondly, Zoom hearings are still allowed. However, a justice of the peace conducting a Zoom hearing must be in the place designated for holding court during the hearing unless exigent circumstances exist (such as an application for a writ of re-entry or restoration) or the judge is a visiting judge.
