Criminal History Checks

  • Most governmental bodies are not permitted to compile all of the arrests or criminal charges on a person based on a request under the Public Information Act.  This is considered a criminal history compilation and must be withheld from public release.  However, members of the public can obtain and compile criminal charge information at the public computer terminals at both the District and County Clerks’ Offices located in the Tim Curry Justice Center, 401 W. Belknap, Fort Worth, Texas 76196.  Once you have obtained and compiled the arrest/charge information, you can submit a request for the relevant records.  A governmental body cannot compile the arrest/charges for you, but if you compile it yourself and then ask for that specific information we can give you all public information pertaining to those arrests/charges.
  • To obtain a felony criminal background check for cases in Tarrant County, go to the District Clerk webpage for assistance.

Police Reports/Offense Reports

  • If a person was arrested by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office or charged with a criminal offense by the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, you can submit a request for the associated police or offense report.
  • If the arrest was made by a law enforcement agency other than the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office or the arrest did not result in a criminal prosecution, you should submit a request to the arresting law enforcement agency, as Tarrant County would not have the associated offense report in its possession.
  • If there is an active criminal investigation or prosecution, it is highly unlikely that the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office or Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office will release an offense report associated with that case while it is pending.  However, if you are willing to wait until the conclusion of the criminal investigation or prosecution, we will monitor the case you have asked for information about and inform you once the case is closed. You can then re-submit your request.
