    Outdoor Warning System

The Outdoor Warning Systems may be activated for any kind of emergency – not just severe weather. The sirens are designed to be heard for those who are outdoors.

When you hear the sirens, seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest level, away from windows and exterior walls. Turn on a weather radio or television to a local station for more information.

Sirens will be activated for any of the following conditions:

    ·         A tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service,

    ·         Tornado or funnel cloud reported by a reliable source,

    ·         Sustained winds in excess of 60-70 mph,

    ·         Reports of hail larger than one inch

    ·         Chemical spill,

    ·         State or national emergency or

    ·         Other emergencies as appropriate

The sirens are strategically placed. Locations of sirens in your area may be found on your city webpage.

    Indoor Warning System

The Office of Emergency Management recommends a NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) All Hazards and Weather Alert Radio with the Specific Area Message Encoding feature. The NOAA radio allows you to keep up to date on all types of emergencies 24 hours-a-day. You can buy one at many local retailers starting at $35.

NOAA radios with the SAME feature can be programmed to provide emergency information specific to your area. The code for Tarrant County is 048439.  For more information visit
