In Tarrant County, an estimated 211,000 individuals receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), historically known as the food stamp program.
Studies have shown that individuals who live in poverty (including SNAP recipients) have dietary intakes that are not congruent with current recommendations (i.e. Dietary Guidelines or MyPlate).
Heroes for Health is an educational event that targets 4th-7th graders with the goal to reduce food insecurity in Texas among underserved audiences. To help them adopt practices that improve the participants dietary choices and create positive attitudinal changes toward healthy foods, and increase healthier food choices.
