Tarrant County Public Health urges residents to celebrate the 4th safely

July 2, 2020 (Tarrant County, TX) - With COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations more than doubling since June 1, Tarrant County Public Health today urged residents to stay home as much as possible during the upcoming holiday.

“We want people to enjoy their Fourth of July, but in a healthy and safe way,” said Director of Public Health Vinny Taneja.  “And the way to do that is to avoid inviting friends and neighbors over or having a party. Just enjoy the holiday with your immediate household members and families,” he said.

He advised people to avoid large gatherings and to enjoy Fourth of July fireworks displays from a safe distance while staying in your vehicle. “Now is not the best time for normal Fourth of July activities. Since we are still in a pandemic, it’s important that we celebrate the holiday safely,” Taneja said.

Residents are encouraged to stay home, wear a mask when in public, wash their hands frequently and practice social distancing. With hospitalizations and cases increasing in Tarrant County and across Texas, everyone needs to do their part in fighting COVID-19. Older adults and people of any age with serious or chronic medical conditions should be especially cautious and should cancel or postpone nonessential travel.

Free COVID-19 testing is available at testing locations across Tarrant County. To do a self-screening and make an appointment go to covidtesting.tarrantcounty.com. For non-urgent questions about COVID-19 call the Tarrant County Public Health information line at (817) 248-6299, 24 hours a day seven days a week.
