June 18, 2015 (Tarrant County, TX) – Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) has confirmed a West Nile Virus (WNV) positive mosquito sample in unincorporated Tarrant County.
The positive mosquito sample was collected in Southeast Tarrant County – in the area around Wilson Rd. and Shelby Rd. (Click for Map).
Weather permitting; TCPH will begin ground spraying efforts on Friday, June 19. Ground spraying will start at 9 p.m. and conclude by 5 a.m. the following morning.
In an effort to inform the public, TCPH has issued a notification to neighbors in the area and will continue notifications throughout the weekend.
TCPH reported its first WNV positive mosquito sample on May 29. To date, 1,518 mosquito samples have been tested at TCPH’s North Texas Regional Laboratory since seasonal surveillance began on April 1. A total of seven samples have tested positive – Fort Worth (4), Richland Hills (1) and Unincorporated Tarrant County (2).
TCPH would like to remind residents of the importance of taking personal protective measures to safeguard against West Nile Virus. Residents should routinely dump standing water on their property, use repellent, and dress for dusk to dawn.
TCPH has compiled a list of ways You Can Protect Yourself.
