October 9, 2015 (Tarrant County, TX) – Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) has confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) in two mosquito samples collected in the area of unincorporated Northwest Tarrant County.
Weather permitting, TCPH will begin ground spraying efforts Monday, October 12, 2015. Ground spraying will start at 9 p.m. and conclude by 5 a.m. the following morning.
In an effort to inform the public, TCPH has issued a notification to neighbors in the area and will continue notifications throughout the weekend.
To date, the department has tested 3,877 mosquito samples at TCPH’s North Texas Regional Laboratory since seasonal surveillance began on April 1. A total of 385 samples have tested positive - Arlington (41), Azle (2), Burleson (1) Bedford (6), Benbrook (10), Colleyville (10) Crowley (19), Edgecliff Village (5), Euless (15), Fort Worth (109), Grand Prairie (6), Grapevine (7), Haltom City (5), Haslet (2), Hurst (10), Keller (1), Kennedale (9), Lake Worth (15), Mansfield (5), N. Richland Hills (27), Pantego (9), Richland Hills (12), River Oaks (10), Sansom Park (8), Unincorporated Tarrant County (30), Watauga (4), Westover Hills (7).
TCPH would like to remind residents of the importance of taking personal protective measures to safeguard against West Nile Virus. Residents should routinely dump standing water on their property, use repellent, and dress for dusk to dawn.
