Ground Spraying Scheduled for Friday Night in Unincorporated Tarrant County

July 15, 2015 (Tarrant County, TX) – Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) has confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) in mosquito samples collected in two areas of unincorporated Tarrant County.

The first sample is from the unincorporated area of Southwest Tarrant County around Deerwood Forest Dr. The second sample is from the unincorporated area of Northwest Tarrant County around Yucca Flats Trail.

Weather permitting, TCPH will begin ground spraying efforts in both locations Friday, July 17, 2015. Ground spraying will start at 9 p.m. and conclude by 5 a.m. the following morning.

In an effort to inform the public, TCPH has issued a notification to neighbors in both areas and will continue notifications throughout the weekend.

TCPH has updated the department’s Stop West Nile Virus webpage.

To date, the department has tested 2,105 mosquito samples at TCPH’s North Texas Regional Laboratory since seasonal surveillance began on April 1. A total of 34 samples have tested positive – Arlington (3), Crowley (4), Fort Worth (10), Grapevine (1), Hurst (1), Lake Worth (2), North Richland Hills (1), Pantego (2), Richland Hills (2) and Unincorporated Tarrant County (8). There have been no reports of WNV human cases in Tarrant County to date.

TCPH reminds residents of the importance of taking personal protective measures to safeguard against West Nile Virus. Residents should routinely dump standing water on their property, use repellent and dress for dust to dawn.

TCPH has compiled a list of ways You Can Protect Yourself.
