June 25, 2014 (Tarrant County, TX) – Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) has confirmed a West Nile virus (WNV) positive mosquito sample. No human cases have been reported in 2014.

The positive mosquito sample was collected from Benbrook, TX.

To date, 1,377 mosquito samples have been tested at the North Texas Regional Laboratory at TCPH since seasonal surveillance began on April 1.

Last year, TCPH reported its first WNV positive mosquito sample during the last week of June.

TCPH would like to remind residents of the importance of taking personal protective measures to safeguard against West Nile Virus. Residents should routinely dump standing water on their property, use repellent, and dress for dusk to dawn.
