Give flu the boot, get vaccinated now
(Tarrant County, Texas) . Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) needs the community's help to "Give Flu the Boot!" We are asking that residents encourage friends, family, coworkers and others to get vaccinated right away. Everyone 6 months and older should get an annual flu shot.
The more people who are vaccinated against the flu, the less opportunity it will have to spread through our community, especially to babies younger than 6 months who are too young to be vaccinated.
A "Give Flu the Boot!" toolkit on the TCPH Web site will help businesses, faith-based organizations, schools, colleges and universities, and the community kick start their efforts. The toolkit includes sample messages, flyers, T-shirt designs, and more.
"Based on our tracking, flu has arrived earlier this season than it did last year," said Lou Brewer, director of Tarrant County Public Health. We typically do not see local activity until mid to late November."
The early arrival is characterized by confirmed cases of flu and by people visiting their doctor with influenza-like symptoms of a fever above or equal to 100 øF , accompanied by a cough or a sore throat with flu being the likely cause.
"Getting vaccinated against the flu is especially important before traveling or gathering with friends and family during the upcoming holiday season," noted Brewer.
The flu shot is $20 per person at Tarrant County Public Health Centers. Medicaid and Medicare Part B will be accepted. For more information, call 817-321-4700 or visit the Give Flu the Boot! Web page.
