Curnutt appointed to fill Justice of the Peace vacancy

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court today appointed Mary Tom Cravens Curnutt to take over as the Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace when current JP Linda B. Davis' resignation becomes effective May 4, 2013
Since Davis' resignation occurs in the middle of a term (which will expire at the end of 2014), under State law, the Commissioners Court was required to appoint a replacement. The County received 34 applications.
Curnutt, manager of the Fleetwood Memorial Foundation, is a fifth-generation Arlington resident, who has been active in civic affairs for many years. From 2007 to 2009, she was the executive director of the Miracle League DFW, a non-profit baseball program for children with mental and/or physical limitations. In 1988, she earned a bachelor's degree in Business Management at Texas Christian University and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arlington High School in 1984.
"There was a wide degree of support for Mary Tom," said County Judge Glen Whitley. "She has been very active in that community (Precinct 2) and will represent it very well."
"The difficult part was that there were so many qualified candidates," said Precinct 2 Commissioner Andy Nguyen. "But ultimately, I believe that Mary Tom would be a good, effective JP and would make a good public servant."
