Chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and stroke account for 70 percent of all deaths in the U.S. each year.
As risk for chronic disease begins prenatally and early in childhood, these life stages provide opportunity to reduce life-long chronic disease risk early through the adoption of healthy behaviors.
CDC tasked National WIC Association with the goal of reducing chronic disease risk by increasing access to healthy food environments and chronic disease prevention and management services.
